Any date markings on EB0n pickups? Does aNyone know if Gibson EB pickups have stamped or other date codes like you'd find on vintage Fender pickups. I want to confirm the date of a bass I'm going to look at. The serial and pot codes are both for 1962, but the pickup has what looks in photos to be a chrome cover, not the black cover that was on 62 and earlier basses, and not the 63-65 nickel. Photos look like chrome but hard to be sure until I see it in person. The seller is convinced it's original. Is there's any way to check the pickups themselves for year markings?

If you search for a bass forum called "The Last Bass Outpost" they have a pretty active Gibson forum. You will probably get an answer to your question over there if no one can tell you here.

Thanks NOcturnal. Haven't had any response here so I will try posting to that forum. I"ve been searching widely and haven't found any mention of date markings on those early gibsons.

I'll post here if I learn anything

I caught myself a couple of times doing the same thing. I will never forget the first time I saw Mountain live perform it though.

I missed the first go round unfortunately, but have come to have a great appreciation for not only Felix but the band as a whole. Massively under appreciated in my opinion

Agreed. i was 3 feet away from a speaker column, and about 8 feet away from Leslie West. After the concert I went a day and a half hearing nothing but Mountain in my head. They opened with "Never In My Life", and slowed it down bit. The song, I think sounds better a bit slower than faster.

If you have the old Mountain, Climbing vinyl album, play it with headphones on, turn it way up. Listen to the end of Theme For An Imaginary Western, and the beginning of Never In My Life, in the gap between the two songs, you can hear Felix say, "READY, PLAY!". Then Never In My Life kicks in.

Climbing is a good vinyl to have. You can't hear it on the CD of it. They must have removed it.
