1963 EB3, all original, OHSC. I checked the pot dates as well.
This bass is featured on the Gibson bass site above as
the 1963 they show.
I had a 1974 EB3 that was stolen in 1977. I went to a pawn
shop in Roxbury MA and paid $125 for this one as a
replacement.
Are there any more Les Paul basses out there? I'd LOVE to find a nice black Standard. Of course, my ideal would be a bass dressed like a Custom, but don't think Gibson ever did that in the bass line.

Here's my current Gibson.
All these posts make me miss my old RD![]()
I currently have a '77 RD Standard and a Greco T-Bird. I've also owned an SG bass and an Explorer bass. I love Gibson basses. That's a beautiful family portrait, drbassman!
I have a 71 LP Triumph, 72 EB-3, 76 Ripper and my son has a 94 LP.
also own a mid 90's epi rivoli but it's not in the same league as the Gibsons.

Wow, this is in amazing condition. Thanks for sharing it!!!
Actually, it is in better condition than the pics would indicate.
The photos some how picked up every little cloud on the chrome.
There is a little of the chrome coatong on the plastic housings
that has come off. I have taken very good care of it. It was my
only bass for 28 years. (Then I joined TB, you know the
rest of how that goes.)
I took it to the NE TB GTG in August, and got a lot of compliments
on its sound. The neck is kind of D shaped, but
its very comfy to play and FAST AS HAIL! I had just put new
strings on it and cleaned the fretboard so it was smoove!
Played on the bridge pup, the thing has amazing tone. It literally
SNARLS. I used to run it through an Acoustic 140
head and a 2x15 Acoustic 106 cab. Lookout!
Here's a GTG pics featuring Chunk-o-Funk on EB3.
the Ripper has 70's Guild JSII pups or "sludgebuckers" i'm gonna put a Gibson "mudbucker" pup in the bridge position.and i would love to restore my G3 i've only seen Ripper guards up.and S1 pups are the guitar and bass pups the same?the dimarzio was there when i bought the bass in 2000.i wanna get another Ripper with stock everything and a Grabber.i just love that body shape.like a girl with a big butt.rat, what are the pups in your ebony ripper?
fwiw, the Gibson parts seller on ebay has some G3 pups & pickguards if you've ever thought about getting rid of that split p and restoring it's honor.![]()
When I wanted to make some changes to my ebony Bird, the good Dr's chrome & white pearl Bird was the look I was planning on following. (I remeber when it was 69 Vette's Bird) But after some thought and seeing an unusual Greco Bird, I'm going into stealth mode with my Bird. It's almost finished and then I'll post picks of all 3 of my Birds!
