Gibson EB 5-string

Had some time to spend wandering through some music stores. I found a couple Gibson EB 5-strings at a nearby GC. The bass was exceptionally light. After looking it over and playing it for about half an hour I noticed that the body wasn't finished very smoothly at all. Actually the one I played had a "divot" in the back that really looked bad. In fact, when you look at some pictures on the Internet of them you can see the grain of the wood. For a bass that's street price is north of a grand I was less than impressed. These two basses were said to be overstocks and they had them reduced to $7-something and I thought that was still too much. Bottom line, I was less than impressed--disappointed in fact.

Did I come across a "second" or is this pretty much it?

They have a thin satin nitro finish.
I love the look and feel.
American made with top notch hardware and a hard case. For under a grand.
Good deal if you ask me.

I got flamed pretty bad for my opinion on these bass guitars as I thought they were cheaply slapped together and it is obvious they don't care anymore & just want the money. I say this as a Gibson bass owner, RD Artist.

hdracer, I thought it was just so-so. The nicest feature on it was the bridge. I played a used G&L and was a much better bass.

I was originally drawn to this bass because of the included case. I also play horns and I'm somewhat surprised at the business model of guitars versus horns. It is pretty much the norm to get a quality case with any horn, yet you'll spend good money on a bass and sometimes get the box it came in. Sometimes you get a bass and there is no case for it--case in point, my Fender Starcaster semihollow body. Just weird.

Are these 100% US made?

What is the nut width (5 strings)?

I guess Gibson quality can go either way, I purchased my sg last year and the quality was amazing fit to finish. I have not played an eb in fact I have never seen one here in taxxachusetts!

I gave my 4 string version to my dad, felt extremely cheap... Id like to know how much the parts for this bass costs
