I just purchased a '76 Grabber and it has some bridge damage. What are some viable options for a bridge that sounds good, fits relatively well, and keeps the string-thru construction? I've read that the Badass III fits very well. If I could grab a Lakland-style bridge, I would definitely put that on.

It's also missing the truss cover and a hardshell case and I haven't been able to find either of those anywhere.

Any help is much appreciated.

:smug: I have the bridge cover and hardcase original to a Grabber that I sold last August, but no truss cover. I've not given any thought to selling them, but it's a possibilty. I can always use money to put in other guitar/amp projects. As you say, fairly hard, particularly the case, to find. If you want, I can give some consideration to selling and as to price. Give me a shout.

Hello There:

I bought a 75 G3 without the truss rod cover, I bought a new Gibson trussrod cover and it fitted perfectly. Bought mine from Darren Riley (highly recommended), go to this address (Invalid Link Removed and scroll down until you find the Gibson plain truss rod cover.

George.

ok, I wasn't sure. I thought the G3 had the fenderish bridge but the ripper & grabber had 3 pt bridges (from the pics on gibsonbass.com I thought it may have been a 3 pt). I didn't know the stamped metal bridge allowed for string through body. in that case, I wouldn't hesitate use something more substantial. although some say the character of the grabber sound is derived from the bridge.

Don't bother with an OHSC unless you really need it for vintage value. The basses are wide as hell though, keep you eyes peeled for a used coffin case (these are the only cases I could find that are wide enough) on ebay. I got one for my Ripper for just over $80 shipped. Much cheaper than an original Gibby case. And you can get a regular Les Paul truss cover for it.

Did you just buy this on ebay by any chance? Nice to meet the guy I was bidding against, haha :D

Grabbers never had three point bridges, they were always the flat bent metal Fender style mounted flat to the body.

G-3 & Rippers had three point bridges

The Hipshot version is made for three point ones.

after much consideration (and finally examining the bass in hand), i think i'll be going with the hipshot A.

it's a 4-point, and the hipshot supertone is made for 3-point (although the website says its a perfect replacement for gibson basses). the transtone looks ok too, but the TB chatter says it's overrated.
