gibson grabber project good or bad idea?

for a few hundred dollars what do you have to lose even if the project fails?

true, i reckon i could always just throw a warmoth on the body. i do think the guy is starting with too high a bid. but i think thats because he's a pawn shop dealer and saw gibson on a headstock.

Not bad if the frets & neck are in good shape. If it needs fret or neck work forget it.

I thought the Grabber had a moveable "soap bar" pick up. The P-Bass pickup (and pickguard) don't look original, unless it was a custom order.

If not all original, I think the price is too high to start with.

speaking from my personal experience id just buy it to keep it as is. the grabber pick ups imo are crap. i own several gibson basses an the p config would sound the best. if you get that bass for 400 it would be a great deal! original G-1's go for about 850.

I think you could find better. By time you factor the neck repair and parts to get it original, you’ll be to deep.
FYI: a Fender style replacement neck won’t fit unless you re-rout the body’s neck pocket.

all valid points, the neck would set me back like 300 and the guy selling it doesn't seem like he knows whats up.

the neck could be repaired.. 300 is high for it.. even for a project.. for double that you could find a decent player Grabber.. this one has the Schaller tuners and bridge.. the guard and the P bass pickup in it.. and most likely replacement pots..

the case is what it is.. lol.. they suck.. mine does..

I just recorded with a grabber that has been repaired in the same exact spot, go figure.. The thing would NOT stay in tune. I had to tune way too often, even for recording. Forget about playing it live if you don't want to tune in between every song.
