That's what I replaced mine with. The original had rusted big time from being stored in a humid hardcase. Same with the electronics. Thankfully the pickup survived, probably thanks to the epoxy! Unfortunately, the string-through holes in the body don't line up AT ALL with the bridge holes. Poor QC at Gibson back in the day? Installation error on my part?

Does anybody here have an idea where I could find a replacement slider? I couldn't get the stink out of the original...

Here's my '73 Ripper, as it was off a Craigslist purchase. I called it the Smurf Ripper.

Here it is again, with the blue paint removed and the tough-as-nails white finish underneath.

Here's the Smurf Ripper as it stands now. Under the ugly paint it was a natural, which would (in theory) make it one of the 20 natural finish maple Rippers made in 1973.

That can't be a '73, as they were all fat-style ones. That's the thin style.

Probably installation error cause i don't think gibson in the 70's thought there would be a future bridge to 'replace' it along the way. If you want the string through option on your grabber, you should pass the strings though original holes of the body & through the hipshot bridge as well. Tune it up, intonate it & see where the screw holes line up so you can use both options if ever.

Got my G3 two years ago. I love the sound. The color is what came on the bass when I bought it. It's kinda a Ford Escort Green Metallic but It looks good so it will stay for now. I'll go natural if I change it. Tuners aren't originals but everything else is original. I understand the pups are Bill Lawrence pups. They give a really nice sound. Selection switch is: neck/mid - all 3 - mid/bridge. Simple but effective.
