Oh right. Do you know when he got the G3?
I'd say he got it around 1991. I can remember watching a concert from Miami that year and he was playing the G3. Also everything I have read about dookie says that he recorded it with a fender active pj running with just the p pickup, but there are some tracks that you can hear the jazz pickup added and some that just sound like the g3.

Learn something new everyday. + i have that album hahaha. So 1039 was peavey, kerplunk was the g3, dookie was an active pbass with just the split p pickup (some songs added the j for bite), & then so forth.

yup. then insomniac with the G3, and then on nimrod and warning he used vintage p-basses, and then after that he used a mix of his custom fenders and vintage fenders on everything i believe

True i forgot insomniac was the G3. But i love his pbass tone better. Well his weapon (vintage 60's bass i believe). g3/grabber/ripper all all different & my order of preference is Ripper-grabber-g3. i just find the g3's tone too thin for my tastes anyway, where it could work for many others such as Dirnt. I love the ripper for it's neck & some tones. It's a monster. The grabber while i love the tone, i hated the contrast between the thin body & the baseball bat neck. Again it works for others. xD

Insomniac was also G3. Nimrod, Warning and probably American Idiot were standard P bass and after that I assume it's his custom 55 body and pickguard/normal pickups bass that the sig model is modelled after. I'm guessing American Idiot was standard P because I don't think he got the custom model until after recording, however it is in the music videos so perhaps he had it before?

The tone Krist Novoselic gets from his natural 74 Ripper on Nevermind is just incredible. I'm going to steal the tone when I get a Ripper...well, if I do. If so, I would prefer a fat bodied one, but I'll get whichever I can take. (And change the pickups to the two-screw variety if it's a three-screw one. I don't like the look.)

It is pretty sick, which is why i'm just gonna build my own ripper (slim bodied with some GFS lipstick tube pickups - cause SD replacements are out of my $$ range). & it'll be blood red all maple w/rosewood board stained black.
