Gibson les Paul bass serial number

I usually can just go to Google and do serial number look ups, but I’m struggling with this one. Someone not on talkbass wants to trade me a Les Paul standard but this serial number is coming up with results not making sense or matching the year he’s telling me it is. Anyone got some skills?

Made on the 8th day of 1992. The last 3 digits are the instrument number made that day

Like Aussie says, or to further decode; in this era, the first digit and the fifth digit are the year of manufacture, the three digits in between are the calendar days of that year. The last few are a sequence number.

Here's one made on the 11th day of 2011, and sequenced 332nd. By this time they'd started stamping the year beneath "Made In USA"
