Hi guys'n'girls. I'm new on this forum and this is my first thread, but i'll just start out as i'd to anywhere else.

I'm about to buy my first bass, and it is late. So it's not that i am not experienced, i have just borrowed other peoples basses until now. The bass i am going to buy is a Gibson Les Paul Special bass from 1998, with Bartolini pickups. I was wondering if you could tell me something about this bass, the pickups especially. Which styles is it coolest in? How much would you pay for it?, and so on.

Is this the flat top version?

Flattops go for $500 - $700

The ones with the barts are not as favored unless they have a flametop. Maple flat flame tops have been fetching $1200. The flat tops weigh less than their carved top cousins- I know a lot of guys who like both basses.

The bart pickups & preamp are kind of harsh. Supposedly people like them better with the preamp removed. If it's a plain Bart version and a player don't go past $600. On the other hand you will not loose money on the bass if priced correctly. They are easy to flip.

Most people favor the LP's with the Tbird or chrome LP pups- a great bass.

Those are Thunderbird pickups which most people like more. It might have a Bart preamp, which most people remove. Nice bass, you should not pay more than $600- $700 as you can get a newer Faded paul for a little more than that.

Well.. The seller wants what is equal to 7.000£, and its hard to get it cheaper in Denmark. Should i just forget about it? The thing is that i really want a Gibson, but if i'm going for a new one, it will be very expensive, and i don't want to buy over ebay, as i cant listen and try the instruments there. I found this bass at the biggest danish private-selling site, and the guy lives close to me, AND there is only a few Gibby's..

I was going to say £7000!. You could buy a custom Les Paul Gibson over here for less than that or get a really good one for that money.

Well £700 is roughly $1400. But thats because the pound is so strong.

I would try the Les Pauls your interested and then look in to ordering the same bass online. As your in Europe most European dealers should be willing to ship to you.
