I went to get a Pelham blue one then I saw the graphite pearl and it had to come home with me.
Neck is heavy, if you move it backwards it further worsens the balance.
I figured as much.
I would never make any decisions on mods until I have the instrument in hand...other than putting on my TI jazz flats, changing out the knobs to Gibson top hats w/ silver inserts, and swapping out the truss rod cover to a "FF" (Foo Fighters) one.
I can't wait to get it on Monday!

I have the Gibson ES-335 in ebony and love it, and currently my Jack Casady in Alpine White is my #2. I picked up a Midtown Signature in Pelham Blue, and loved everything about it except for the asymetrical little horn (ala Les Paul). So...anybody got a lead on a Midtown Standard in Pelham Blue out there for sale?

I’m joining the club, just bought my Midtown Signature in Graphite Pearl.
Over the years I’ve amassed a few basses and a couple guitars, and now that I’ve downsized, space is a little tight. I have to keep instruments I’m not currently playing in storage. Thus I had two guitars—a 2004 Faded Cherry Flying V, and a Gretsch G3156 white with a Bigsby—that hadn’t been played in years, because I’m a rudimentary guitar player at best. I decided I was least likely to ever sport the Flying V on stage in a country/band, so why not sell it and get something I might occasionally use.
I had a Bass Mods 5-string all lined up to purchase, when this Midtown Signature in Graphite Pearl came up on Craigslist at a reasonable price. I had never heard of the Midtown line up, so I did some investigating. I dithered on the Bass Mods or the Midtown, but with the encouragement of a co-worker that enjoys helping spend my money, and with the thought that there may be a little more long term value in a big name brand with an anniversary inlay, the decision was clear to get the Gibson.
Did the deal last night, and I am pleased with the bass as it is in mint shape. Looking forward to practice tonight where I can play it through my rig; TC RH450 and two 212 cabinets.

Played the Midtown last night, it has a very distinctive sound compared to my PJ’s. It really suited Mercury Blues (David Lindley version) with the bass punchy with an overriding ring. I can see using different pickup selector setting for particular songs/sounds or portions of songs.
I did get a little feedback when I stood too close to the amp, it sounded like a whistling. Overall, it played well, although the neck reach seems a little longer than the Fender styles I’m used to. I think I’ll get it professionally setup, as the strings seemed a little high (this is the original Sweetwater setup, and original strings ...two years old?). Also, I believe the bass moved from Austin TX to Seattle, so there may have been some humidity changes to the instrument.

The neck pickup soloed is pretty beefy, similar to an EB-2 in non-super-sub-mode. The bridge pickup is burpee but not like a Jazz, and can be cool for some applications when you want that sound. As for strings, you may want to try TI flats, they work really well on these. Enjoy!
After all the talk here about models, features, etc, I can't remember: Is this thing fully hollow, or a center block, or a partial center block not touching the top, or what?
