Gibson RD

Hello,

I'd like to know your opinion about Gibson RD standard and artist version. Looking for a cool/weird son for a rock/grunge/alternative power trio.

1)The artist version: i usually dont like active electronics, but that Moog circuit looks like one of a kind. How is it? does it cut through the mix? is it noisy ? is it cool?

2) the standard: Is it worth it, does it have a sound of its own? I read somewhere it sounds like a jazz bass..

1) it sucks. Noisy, and the switches are useless. But I like the bass boost and treble cut sound I can get with big huge flatwounds. That's about it, though. I'm used to it, so I keep going with it.

2) Never heard one, but to me it seems like a really good way to go, because you could put your own pre in there if you wanted to get all dubby like I do on mine. If you want rock grind, just keep it stock and the Standard would be the ticket, I'm guessing.

the artist is the best bass iv played.
its just got oodles of badass.
every time i use it at a show there's at least someone who comments on it and the sound.
I like it because its got plenty of top end naturally, which gives definition, then i can add plenty of bass to that, without it turning into mud.

the bass and treble pots are useful.
the bright mode can be useful, if you roll off the treble a little bit, gives it all a bit more grunt without being to cutting.
The expansion / compression is an acquired taste..
Its a little noisy, but not really bad. if your playing it doesnt matter anyway!
