Gibson SG Bass Inlays Question

Hello all,

Wondering if you might be able to shed some light on a quick question. I'm a total noob at bass so please take it easy on me. I just recently bought my son a Gibson Les Paul. Being a huge old school AC/DC fan, (RIP Bon) I have always loved the look the the SG.

So, I'm gonna buy a bass one. But, as I start to look, as I did with my son's Les Paul, I am quicky overwhelmed by all the differences. One in perticular. Wanting a "real deal" Les Paul, I got SO fed up with trying to figure out what was what, I just went and bought a brand new one. There, real deal. Done...

My question, I'm searching the Gibson SG Standard Bass selling on eBay. Theres a bunch of them. Again, I want a "real deal" SG bass, but I see some saying Standard that have trapezoid inlays, and other Standards that have dot inlays. Some have 3 knobs, some 4. I don't mind buying used if to save a few bucks. Really scratching my head here.

I know I like the look of the trapezoids over the dot. And want a full scale. Any Gibson guru's here that can shed some light on this or steer me in the right direction?

There's the SG faded with dots, and the SG reissue with trapezoid inlays. The differences are a headstock decal, the finish, and $600. I'd go with the SG faded (I have the worn brown).
I think the nut is different too. If you get the SG faded, make sure to get it with the hard case. Some sellers include it and some don't.

All Gibson SG basses are 30.5" scale. Over the years they have come with both dots and trapezoid inlays. They all have three knobs.

That explains a lot. Went to Guitar Center few weeks ago. There was one hanging on wall. The second it hit my hands, I instantly knew there was something different about it. Felt amazing. Even to a greenhorn like me. I've only ever played my cheap-o Dean which is a full scale.

Always feels like I'm playing a 10 foot guitar. Thanks.

600 bucks to get trapezoid inlays? Damn...

Oh, well. It's only money. I gotta have it...
