Gibson SG Bass Tuners

I have a Gibson SG Special 2014 bass. ($499 blowout from GC). The grover tuners are quite heavy and I want to replace them. Has anyone ever done this? I have read that the tuner ferrule is actually glued in and hard to remove. I have also read that if you leave the tuner ferrule in, the Hipshot HB6 3/8 tuners will fit just fine. Comments?

You may want to contact Gibson Customer Service about the tuners.
