Gibson SG bass us: Good value?

I didn't know Gibson had launched Gibson sg bass,

faded
standard
reissue

What are the difference between the 3 ,as the standard and reissue cost 40% more than the faded,does it really worth it?
Other question,do you know which strings are mounted on thes models ?

I own a Gibson Faded Cherry SG Bass. I think the bass was a great value for me, though it doesn't sound like an old EB3, and I think a lot of bass players would have a hard time getting a good sound out of it. I think it really needs the compression of a cranked tube amp and some grit from some pushed speakers to sound it's best, but if you've got that, it's an awesome guitar!

Faded- cheaper with a satin poly finish
Standard- new model with fancier inlays and nitro finish
Reissue- oridiginal model with the same features as the faded with a nitro finish tho

I personally would go for the Standard because I love me some inlays!
Gibsons are great but I prefer my T-Bird to all the SG Reissue I've tried.
I think the standard strings on Gibson Basses are D'Addario but I can't be sure.

i just bought a reissue from the classifieds here and couldnt be happier! super fun to play, especially now that ive put flats on it. not sure what the poster above meant by hard to get a good tone, all i find is good tone. flats, pic, palm muted! great thump. definitely could not be my only bass tho. a little limited. there is or was also a supreme available in that red to orange fade and a natural color. meh.

How is the fret work on yours? I like the bass but have read some reviews that one of the things Gibson did to cut back on the cost was the fretwork is not as good as the Standard. I love the Standard but have not been able to play a Faded. Be nice to save a few bucks but if it need a full fret dressing I'm not saving much. I played a Standard through a SVT3 & a Markbass amp and I thought it sounded GREAT I love it.

I noticed the faded EBO3 bass by gibson when it came out. Was hoping for little bit lower internet store prices. As is, I'd get either the gibson faded worn brown or the epiphone set neck ebo3 and perhaps change one or the other of the pups. Mainly cause I dont like nitro finish. I would need to try the gibson version before buying one due to its short scale. With the epiphone I;m getting a excellent build instrument with regular scale, poly finish and upgradeable pups and bridge if needed. If I liked the gibsons sound with short scale, and build was excellent, I'd get the gibson faded instead and perhaps upgrade the pups and or bridge.

You said sound is different compare to old Eb3?i need the medium sound precision style and big bass for dub:does the standard will fit my needs like the old Eb3 seems to have?

Now i got my SG bass. This is the best build bass I have ever owned, craftsmanship is absolutely perfect, perfect fretwork and finish and the setup was 100% when it arrived, I changed the strings to dadario chromes 45-100 but it is a disappointment, the e string sound dull compared to the other 3 so I have ordered a set of pyramid gold (witch I have used on my EB2 for the last 10 years) and now to the sound. This is a old fashion sounding bass, compared to the EB2 it do not have the same earthquake button, but it has the Gibson sound and I do not miss the variotone and extra volume and tone controls. Big Button and sharp midrange the two volume controls is enough for me and the tone control is cool sounding turned all the way back. This bass do not sound good if you play alone but in a band setting it comes to life :hyper:

I have always played Musicman and Tobias basses so this little bass is the perfect companion to them.

Nice bass. I read so much about Gibson's QC problems but mine was perfect too, the best I have owned. I put a Hipshot bridge on mine and have a DiMarzio Model One Pickup at the neck with a 3 way switch wired parallel-coil tap-series, gets some nice tone. Turn the neck pup off and crank the bridge pup full, throw in a little dirt and crank the gain up and you can nail Lemmy's Ric sound. Have fun. And it's sooo light!!

I have had my SG Reissue for 2 years and I am very happy with it. It does have head dive and is on the heavy side. I have it strung with Pyramid Golds and the action is low. No buzz, sustain that goes forever. I play it through a Sansamp VT into a GK MB210. I can get almost any sound I want out of it. It goes well with my Hofner 500/1. Here they are.
