Gibson SG Reissue Owner - Questions

I recently purchased the Gibson 61 reissue bass. Cherry Heritage. NICE BASS! I was playing guitar for years in a band, so going back to bass (where I started years ago) feels great. I have a Fender P, the new Yamaha RBX A4, and the SG Bass. I find the SG most fun to play. Questions: I can't seem to get the real bottom on my low E. All the rest of the bass is BOOM! Why can't I get a decent slap sound on it as I can with the Fender and Yamaha? Thinking about getting the brown worn faded SG bass as well. Anyone have one of these? Any experiences with the SG bass would be helpfull.

Slapping on a SG Reissue will only sound passible if you have tone at 10 and you use brand new bright roundwound strings.

I would rather slap on one of my P basses and THAT sounds terrible.

Oh, if your low E is being lost in the mix, raise the bass sides of the pickups closer to the strings. I have found that specicically the bridge pickup (the small one) is set so low from the factory that the neck pickup totally kills the sound.

Just get a small screwdriver, plug the bass into an amp and try different settings. In a couple of minutes you will likely be happy with the overall sound.
