SO I recently scored one of these beasties (and I DO MEAN BEAST) -- it weights about as much as my Peavey T-40! --

HOWEVER the pickup is LESS than beastly (weak actually)

anyone know what will "drop in" and sound good ???

Maybe drop in at the club:

It sounds like something is wrong with your pickup. It should not sound weak.

As far as I know, there is no direct replacement pickup that will mount in the pickguard.

If the pickup in my Gibson Victory Standard ever gives up, then I would try to get it professionally depotted and rewound.

Otherwise I would buy a new pickguard routed for an angled 3.5" soapbar (e.g. something like an EMG 35HZ, 89mm x 38mm) from Pickguard Planet. I would then glue some wood supports into the body cavity to support the pickup screws.

Not perfect, but close enough to look authentic.

Why not just send the pickup to Fralin or someone who can rewind it? This way you keep the same pickup and you can probably discuss with someone how you want it to sound. It might be a little more money than buying a regular off the shelf pickup but, not that much more.
