After putting in an order for a Geddy Lee Jazz bass last November, it finally arrived! And since they seem to be getting pretty good reviews, I also ordered a DI-2112 to go along with it. When I originally put in the order, I also picked up a set of Tom Brantley Geddy Lee pickups and a set of Rotosound strings. I'm not sure if I want to put the pickups in just yet, so I'm going to mess around with the stock sound which is also apparently very good on its own.

Anyway, who else is giddy for Geddy? If you have one, post a picture of it!

Nice picture!

This bass was well worth the wait. I think I've heard more consistently positive reviews about this particular Fender bass over any of the others. Running it through the DI-2112 to a PA is pretty awesome!

Congrats on the new bass!

Going for the full Rush tone experience, I see; very fun! Would love to actually play a US Ged bass for myself some day. I've outfitted my own little incognito Geddy bass, and am very curious to see how it stacks up to the real deal brethren.

All the tone demos of the T21 pedal I've seen are with the thick drive/compression settings I think of when I listen to Moving Pictures. How does it do with the cleaner side of things?

Where did you see this? The Fender site just say they’re custom voiced American vintage 70s Geddy Lee pickups. You’d think that it’d be advertised as such if the stock pickups were wired by the same guy that did Geddy Lee’s pickups.

The cleans are definitely nice and clean but punchy. I ran it through the DI-2112 with an 18 volt power supply, and I’m assuming since that’s got more headroom it didn’t really break up for that reason. Turning up the drive knob just seemed to increase the volume. I’ll have to try a 9 volt next time.

Beautiful bass!

I've got a 2013 MIM Geddy Signature, purchased new. Can't remember which year they stopped using the BadAss II bridges, but this has one. I put Brantley pickups in it (and also in the fretless sitting next to it in the picture).

Tom has audio samples of his pickups on SoundCloud, recorded A/B alongside others (Fender CS 60's, Fralin etc.) by Geddy's bass tech, Skully. Yes, the fact that Geddy uses them was a selling point, but I didn't buy until I heard the audio samples. Can't say enough good things about them - great round tone with no frequencies hijacking the rest, and what I can only describe as an "aggressive" sound. I stumbled upon them because I am a Geddy fan, but I would buy them anyway even if he didn't use them.

I was always under the impression that they were custom voiced by Tom Brantley based on the pickups he made for Geddy. Am I wrong about that?

Oh, ok interesting. Didn't know it was compatible with multiple battery voltages! Good to know it does a clean thing well, though. I'm still holding off on one for now. I've got a good Geddy thing going here atm, but this thing definitely has me intrigued!

I absolutely love my GI-2112, it sounds fantastic. I recently reacquired a "Rick" and with the right settings on the DI-2112, it absolutely nails the Geddy Lee or Chris Squire tone. Normally I'm not terribly fond of DIs, but this one is a standout.

Per the Fender website, they simply state "A pair of American Vintage ’70s Lee signature ", which I would read as the Pure Vintage '74 set, possibly with some revoicing. No mention of them being voiced by Brantley, nor could I find any other site stating that, though I did find others on this site speculating the Fenders were intended to emulate the Brantley set.

SWEET! Glad to hear/see your bass finally arrived. I ordered one in early January this year and am still waiting on mine. Just last week I talked to a rep at Fender and he said they were currently building a batch of 280. Hopefully mine shows up before too long. In the meantime I purchased both the GED 2112 rack preamp and the YYZ pedal, both of which I recommend. The YYZ has stayed on my pedalboard since I got it, the 2112 has seen some use but I'm kinda waiting on the bass to show up before I get too serious with it. Enjoy your new bass dude!

I had Brantleys installed in this one, since the PO had replaced the originals with Fralins…unfortunately, that fact was not disclosed when I purchased it. The Brantleys sound great, but I don’t know if I’d recommend swapping the originals for them. The original pickups from Fender in my previously owned US Geddy had a unique tonal character that was one of the main things I missed about the bass that made me regret my decision and decide to get another. IMO, the Fender pickups are excellent.

My Geddy's are older MIJ and have the Fender Custom Shop pickups. They sound fantastic. I have played a couple of US Geddys and they sound great but they don't have quite the "grind" of the MIJ Geddys. The US Geddy's have their own thing. They feel more substantial and solid. I actually prefer the neck profile of the US Geddy's.
