Gig Bag for "over the shoulder" use?

I've used an old Warwick gig bag for many years now for my Fender P-Bass, but it's time to start looking for a good, high-quality replacement for it (I've also got a good hardcase for it, but I like a gig bag for quick trips).

I've found quite a few high-quality bags out there, but they all seem to be designed to be worn as a "backpack" style (i.e. straps over *both* shoulders), and what I would *like* to find is one designed for carrying via a single shoulder (like many laptop computer cases are designed).

And just removing one of the backpack straps doesn't really solve the problem, because then the bag doesn't "hang" or carry correctly, and the straps in a backpack design don't really connect to the bag at the proper location for shoulder carrying anyway.

So, does anyone know of a gig bag maker that offers a carry strap configuration that is actually designed for "over the shoulder" rather than "backpack"?

I have a Fender GB for my P & just throw ONE of the 2 shoulder straps over. Then you can change shoulders - which can be a relief now & again.

Just got another bass and needed a gig bag for it. I looked at the Gator G sling bag on Amazon but I couldn't tell from the pic if the zipper was on the side where it could rub on the side of the bass so I ordered another Carvin bag where the zipper is up high on the side of the bag ( as you view it as if it was lying on a table) Good quality inexpensive bag.

hmmm...dunno about the chance for zipper rash.
There is a 1/4" thick piping on the inside between the zipper and the instrument as well as (2) inner headstock pockets and an 8" bottom edge protector.
I've never experienced zipper rash on any of my instruments with any of the gig bags I've used though. Do you have a link for the Carvin bag ?
The best all-around gigbags I've found are the G & L deluxe ones.

Chose the Carvin bag as a result of doing gig bag searches here. Someone had also posted a better pic of the bag on the Forum that convinced me. the intererior is the soft stuff like in my Igig bag. Seems like big bang for the buck.

I like the look of the G sling though.

While checking the threads I found the primary negative with gig bag users was zipper rash on the sides of the bass. The Carvin seems to negate that with a thick soft cushion beteeen the zipper and bass. :)

I have a g sling for my guitars and its ok, but nothing like a high quality bag (ie mooridian, mono etc) I think reunion blues makes one, but it's clad in some gaudy animal skin and costs a fortune.

fwiw I HATED the idea of a backpack style case but my mooridian is great and very comfy - I've carried my bass around for hours and its comfy. in fact when i get to a gig, if the spot for my gear looks unsafe I just keep it on my back until I need to take it out . . .ymmv

Looks nice, but very expensive!

Does anyone else have any suggestions, I'm searching desparately also for an over the shoulder bag also. I have one in the backpack style and it's just ridiculous so I just carry it. Who thought that was a good idea? :confused:

How is it "just ridiculous"? I use an iGiG "backpack" style. It is terrific. Carries my bass, Shuttle, pedal, cables, Zoom recorder and lots of spare bits.

The backpack style for me, it just feels ridiculous wearing the bass on my back like that. The neck is so high in the air and it just feels unbalanced and like I have to hunch down to get thru doorways. Plus I'm not someone walking around a campus or a city with my bass. I'm just making trips from the car to the venue where I'm playing, so I just wanna throw the bass over one shoulder and load in. My old old fender bag was perfect for this - I still have it but it's seen better days and the SR5 doesn't fit in it anyhow.

I guess I'm in the minority since all I can find now (at least in the sub $50 range) are the backpack style ones :(

I've gotten a lot of mileage out of my Road Runner gig bag, and that's with fairly heavy use. I went back and forth the school every day, to band practice, to gigs, being my only bag. I would buy a hard case, but this thing is just far too useful. It has just enough pockets in just the right places and is comfy to carry around. the only signs of wear after over a year of use is the rubber handle split horizontally, easily fixed with tape, and The interior has developed a small tear near one of the tuners, which I'm planning to fix here soon. It's a great bag for a good price and I sling it over one shoulder without a problem.
