Double Bass Gig bag

Backpack straps can be really dangerous. It is really easy to forget that you are carrying a bass until you break the neck going through a doorway
Could be; but somehow that 30 lb thing whacking me in the backs of my calves with every step reminds me.

I always joke that the bowing and shuffling I have to do to get the bass in through doors puts me in the correct attitude to approach the music.

I'm using backpack straps for many years without any issue. When I get a new student, I spend part of some early lesson on presenting how to move safely with the bass. There are only a few tricks to know.
As for the bag itself, I currently have some of the more expensive Thomann.de gigbag, and it works very well since I got rid of the in-built wheels that kept pushing the rear of my thighs. I would advise, if possible, to try the bag before buying, as some bags can't be set well with everybody, and some have badly engineered details. I have yet to find a flawless gigbag.

I have a Tonareli, but I have never used the backpack straps for exactly the reasons everyone has been commenting about. I don't even want them there, but you can keep them stowed away in the pocket. It has a regular shoulder strap too, and the two bow pockets are nice if you carry two bows, which I do. Padding wise, it feels thicker than the padding on my Messina.
We went with the Tonareli designer bass bag. It's great.

Looking for a 3/4 case for lots of car travel. We narrowed it down to the Gewa Prestige 25mm and the Tonareli designer which is 28mm. Could possibly get a Roth and Junius BSB-04, but have to wait for family to come from over seas. Had also looked at the Tuff bag and Bobelock, but my son would like to have the backpack strap option.

Recommendations? Thoughts on the Gewa vs Tonareli or the Roth and Junius?
After researching them all, we decided to go with the Tonareli designer bag version. Got it through Quinn Violin, they were great and so is the case.

Backpack straps shine in stairs (as others have said) and on hills. It was clutch when I was living in San Francisco and doing single trips from the car with amp and cab in hand. Until I move from the Bay Area I will always be using backpack straps. I hate using wheels. Get your hands dirty and it’s another thing to lose.
