As an alternative you might look at vintage inspired clothes from places like Bronson MFG, Olderbest, etc. A lot of that stuff fits in with the genres you're playing and will look a little more professional and hip than wearing the shirt of a band.

Wear what the other guys are wearing. Do you want to look like a band or like some random guys who walked onto the stage?

If that's not in the cards: as a side man I've never gone wrong with all black.

When I was in a surf/soul all instrumental band we went in for sharp vintage cut suits mostly. You could still find that stuff around for cheap. No jeans, no tshirts, no sneakers.

I don't get to do this kind of stuff much anymore, but if the band isn't more themed (some good tips already given for that) I'll go with a comfy t-shirt with a kraken or Godzilla. Japanese preferable, darker tones, done in a serious style not goofy. I get a surprising amount of compliments on these. Or I'll toss on a Terrorsurfs shirt.

My surf band often used to rock guyberas, those Cuban-style shirts. They looked pretty sharp.

Solid pastels, nice shoes, sunglasses. If, like me, you try to prevent the audience from being blinded by your head, try a soft straw hat or a boater.

Hawaiian, Cuban, and bowling shirts are not the way. Makes you look like any old middle aged schlub walking down the street, mixed with, "Look; I'm in a surf band." These are all too common, and have no visual impact IMO.

Look at what traditional surf and instrumental bands wore back in their day. It's a lot of matching suits, or slacks and sweaters. A.K.A. a "preppy" look. It's not only as classy as it gets for a rock band, but it's also "vintage correct.

I'm fond of Tori Richard embroidered silk shirts, bowling shirts, Steady Clothing shirts. Long pants almost always, unless you can get away with shorts. Footwear is usually a pair of Vans or Uins. My profile pic is pretty much my standard fare.
