I know I said I would buzz off and not impede the 5-string fretless search any more. But I hope you will appreciate this submission in a PSA sort of way. Here's what happens when you gig a four-string Squier P: you turn into Dixie Dave Collins, you pound a fifth on stage, you put together a band like Weedeater and have to tour after accidentally shooting yourself in the foot:

I think Dixie Dave might be the human equivalent of the honey badger in terms of how many Fs he doesn't give.

I play that bass in white. You don't want to turn out like me either. Just be careful.

You know what would just be profoundly, absurdly, delightfully surreal? If one of the next few posts on this thread would actually be from Dixie Dave Collins, possibly with a relevant 5-string fretless recommendation.

I was reading a thread on TDPRI, the telecaster message board, earlier today which contained some videos by Joe Gore, former 1990s Guitar Player magazine editor. All of a sudden up pops a post from Joe Gore! Wow!

It could happen, is what I'm saying.

Since I finally saw one of these for under $1G:

Godin A5 Ultra

There is one on reverb that is under your price point right now. They sound phenomenal, have a Lace sensor, piezo, and 13 pin Roland MIDI access, so they aren't 1-trick ponies. I have never really seen these under $1300 when I have been looking. At any other time, I would have bought it by now.

Guys guys guys, let's get this back on track. He plays Skjold basses, is at a 'level' where he can fire people for using cheap gear, and needs a recommendation for a 5 string fretless bass that is 'giggable' because, you know, when you play Skjold basses, you lose familiarity with the riff raff.
A G&L L5500 might suit his needs so long as he doesn't end up like me.
