Girl Bass Player Club, part 2

Here is one of my current bass inspirations...
It's Tsuzumi Okai from the band Tabitha playing at the Mint in Los Angeles. Yes, that's Stephen Perkins from Jane's Addiction banging on the drums behind her. Guitar, bass, drums, NO vocals and can absolutely hold a crowd.

Im horrible with names. Love her tone, and her playing. I could give a rats a$$ less about gender on the bass, a persons style appeals to me or it doesnt.

I have just joined the forum, asked about female members and was directed here.
Until this weekend I haven’t identified myself as a “girl” bass player, I just play. It just got me thinking when my neighbour mentioned it as I was loading the car the other day.
I have been playing for nearly 30 years. It’s not my main instrument (flute is), I don’t play that often but I enjoy it when I do. I played in the band for “Rent” the musical at the weekend (tricky but I still have all my fingers!). I don’t play in a group as such but I do the odd jazz gig as a dep or play in the odd show here and there. It’s nice to keep the skills up (and learn new ones).

No offence taken. We named our cats Tamari and Shoyu (like you may name a pet “Pepper” or “Pickle”. We also considered Uma and Boshi! I don’t think Shoyu the cat minds how you spell it (the vet never gets it right!).
Sadly Tamari disappeared a few years ago. We now have a boy cat called Mervyn, he torments Shoyu but she rules the roost!

Cat lover here too, we have just the one, she was my mum's friend but she has gone so now she has come to live with us. Her name is Smoky after Smoky Lonesome the tramp (hobo) in the film Fried green tomatoes at the Whistlestop cafe

Tall (6' 1" and a smidgen). My first bass was a 1992 Fender Jazz Bass Plus V Ash, 34" scale. My two current basses are the 2000 Ernie Ball/Music Man StingRay fretless 3EQ+piezo in my profile pic and shown above (34" scale), and my 2003 Warwick Custom Shop Corvette Proline fretless (30" scale).
On my StingRay, I use Rotosound RS77LD Monel flatwound strings, medium weight.
On my Corvette, I use D'Addario Prelude 4/4 Medium tension cello strings (and tune CGDA, in fifths, so it's really sort of a long scale electric cello that you can only play pizz).
On fretted basses (including my Jazz Plus V), I use roundwound strings exclusively, but I'm not devoted to any one brand. I probably use D'Addario XLs EXL170-5 more than any other, medium weight, .45-.130, since I can no longer get the excellent Trace Elliot strings I used in the 1990s.
I have no idea what the weights are of any of my instruments. "Not too heavy for me" is all I can really say.
