Give me an idea for a cell phone app (java)

Actually, they might be able to emulate Java, but they're not native Java platforms like phone manufacturers buy and adapt for specific phones.

Android apps are generally programmed in Java, but it's not the J2ME edition used by most last-gen "featurephone" developers, it's a lot closer to the full J2EE version, with some specific, Android-specific APIs.

They wanted me to find a few ideas for cell phone applications and they'll choose one for me to write it.

Maybe they are better off looking for someone with his own brilliant app ideas, not someone that can't think of any.

I'm just looking for ideas.I have no idea what kind of apps there are on cellphones written by Java,I'm looking for all kinda stuff on internet but I like the TBOTs ideas too.

Good point actually but I'm not asking anyone to do research for me,if some one has an idea I'll just appreciate it and maybe evaluate another idea from it..

And I'm not an app developer or anything yet,I'm just a fish out of the water. Newly graduated future developers need guidance.

Fair enough, and understood....I was just considering that the company is looking for what you yourself can come up with, which would show your worth to the company itself.

...as well, I would hate to see (and have seen) someone give a really great idea...the company loves it...designs and produces it...makes several million dollars off it....and yet, the person with the great idea gets nothing.

As a systems analyst, I like the approach you're taking here. You're using all of your resources and network to solve a problem. As a helpful hint, have a broad list. Don't just focus on business, or music, or school. Make each idea be focused on something completely different. This will show them your willingness to get out of your comfort zone, and that your mind takes you more places than just games and music.

How about an app that seeks out unsecured wifi hotspots and shows them on a Google-type map? So for example if you were driving in an unfamiliar city and needed to get online with your laptop, you could quickly locate the hotspots and directions to them.

That seems like a great idea too!

A friend of mine had an app that shows where the close pharmacies are on the screen,there were "P"s on the screen corresponding to pharmacies. If you followed one you'd eventually find it. Maybe something like that can be derived from your idea too bongomania.
