GK 1001 RB II

I have a GK RB II head, but no GK cabs with bi-amping.(No GK cabs at all). I`m a about to buy two single twelve`s cabs. from either Aguilar, Genz Benz ,Bergantino or Epifani.(I`II buy two 8 ohm cabs.)
Maybe I`m stupid, but I don`t get any wiser , when reading the
GK manual.
So, is it recommended to connect two "foreign cabs", without bi-amping to this amphead ? :help:

Yes. You just don't get the benefits of the Horn Management System. Many people report it's no big loss.

does GK actually make cab's ? only kidding, of course they do but - I would guess that the vast majority of GK 1001 RB II's are runthrough non-GK cab's in full range mode.

Don't sweat it - you just have to ignore 1 knob, the Tweeter Level... that's it.

Hi`!,aren`t the RBH 410 a bit heavy ?

They might be a bit heavy but they are a great cab. Unless you are 90 years old with hip and back problems I don't think they are unbearablely heavy. Mind you it seems these days eveyone wants their cabs to be top quality, full of punch but only weigh about as much as a bird's feather. But that's a whole other topic. :)

Hey! I resemble that remark!! :spit: :p

I'll chime in and say that you may want to save your money and keep the GK head. They are top-notch and very reliable.
They also seem to match up well with lots of different types and brands of cabs.

Ive got a older GK1001RBI head. So would it be OK to use a 2 pin Speakon cable from the head to either of my cabs? I recently took the 6ft,4 pin speakon cable that came with this head from factory, cut it in half and made 2 -3ft, 2 pin speakon speaker cables out of it. I've used those speakon cables with my GB heads/cabs just did not know if the GK would could take regular speakon cable out of the connection in back of amp and not try to auto biamp. Its my backup amp so I usually use 1/4" speaker cable to go with 1 -4 ohm cab, 540 watts, not too shabby as a backup amp.

Hey guys, I have a question.
I've just bought GK 1001RB II amp (second hand), and I've noticed that the clip light is flashing alot. How can I make it stop other then keeping it on low volume?
The guy that I bought it from said that the volume knob is basicly for gain. He had it below 10 o'clock and the woofer knob past 1 o'clock. But I'm affraid that I could fry the cabinet that I mainly run it on.
I don't have my own cabinet yet, I use the one with 200W @ 4Ohms that's available in my practice room. And I've rigged it with a cab with 300W @ 8Ohms but it wasn't any different.

Just out of curiosity, what bass are you using, and do you have anything in between the bass and the amp, like effects?

Even when it's clipping, can you hear the preamp distorting at all?

I know you said the guy you bought it from kept the input at 10:00. Where do you usually have it?

I use Yamaha bb425 (passive), no effects.
There's no distortion, I keep it between 10 and 12, but tried to go under 10 and it was still clipping. Ussualy I just press the -14db button and turn the knob to the volume I need, but I'm affraid that could dammage the cabinet.

I'm still learning how to handle the electronic devices...
