Almost always there when I fire it up, then goes away, works fine, sometimes it recurs, then goes away again. Infuriating, I love this amp but cannot rely on it for gigs. Help! Had it looked at by "experts", no luck.

My experience is that they have a good service program. Give them a call and see what options they can offer you.Hey thanks agedhorse, I appreciate the advice. I remember them not being very responsive some years ago, but I will try them again, who knows?
Thanks mattwear good tip, I will try that.Maybe try a small patch cable from preamp out to power amp in. In some amps this connection needs to be cleaned from time to time, so a patch cable is a good and quick test.
Thank you toe of funk. This is exactly right. Early GK 200RB / 400RB /800RB are notorious for this. Sounds like the amp is shorting, but its really just dirty/corroded send and return jacks. Test it with a patch cable. I bet it stops the problem. If so, remove the patch cable, thoroughly clean the jacks with deoxit or other contact cleaner and that amp will be good as new.
