hey guys, i got hte GK and an ashdown 410. how can i make the cab distort, without crankinghte volume to unbearably loud levels? like still have moderate volume levels, but with a bit of speaker distoortion...

Speaker distortion requires you to pump a LOT of power, thus it requires a LOT of volume, especially if you have four speakers to distort.
If, for some reason, you actually LIKE the sound of speaker breakup on bass, then consider downsizing to a very small cab. 1x10", maybe? I don't know why you'd want to, though. It makes the low end flubby and useless. What gave you this idea?
PS: You can get breakup without breaking your eardrums, though. Crank up the Boost control on your amp - much more usable growl and drive than speaker breakup will ever give you.

yeh i have a really old roland cube 60 and i was using that for rehearsal and i got some pretty cool speaker breakup when i cranked that guy. it sounded really good. not flubby at all, more like a natural sounding overdrive. very mild sounding. i already run the boost controll all the way up on my GK and i love that growl sound, but a bit of speaker drive would be good. just wanted to know if it can be done without blowing the neighbourhood up
Are you sure it was the speaker that was distorting, and not just the amp? You can characterize speaker distortion with cone cry, flubby bottom end, harsh everything and ghost harmonics. An old SS amp running near full out is more of my idea of a natural, mild overdrive.
I just sold that amp. If you have the volume by the input higher thsn 12 oclock it will distort especially if the boost is on higher than 12 oclock
I can have my 410 distort/overdrive very easily with my 1001rbII (same as the 700 just with more power). Simply jack up the volume (input) and boost knobs up all the way (or to whatever you r desired level of overdrive is) and simple use the "woofer" knob of the master volume knob.
