I'm really liking my Backline 600. Last night I experimented with set up. My primary bass is a Schecter Stiletto Custom 4 and I'm playing through a 2x10 cab with Eminence BetaLite's and piezo tweeter. I took all effects, compressors, and outboard eq out of the chain last night and this amp is capable of amazing tones.
My only complaint is setting the eq for clean or dirt channel does not give suitable eq for the opposite channel - to my liking anyway. The only improvements I could suggest to this amp are seperate eq for each channel and maybe the addition of a presence knob.
With my particular bass the trademark G-K growl seems to fall a little short, and it's still a great sounding amp. The reviews bashing the overdrive channel are a bit harsh - I can find quite suitable low and moderate drive settings. The highest gain settings don't sound the best for ME, but aren't bad at all, I just prefer more definition.
My current setup is for a great fingerstyle clean tone. For pickstyle it takes a quick tweak of the onboard bass controls, and I use the drive channel for a light hint of grit to give a looser tone to suit songs, styles, or hide some sloppy technique.
