GK Fusion 550

Searched but didn't really find the answer to my question.

Does anybody have enough experience with the Fusion 550 to know what kind of tone it gets? Is it warm and nice?

Basically, do you think it would meet these requirements?

-Warm
-Able to get a little grit
-Reliable
-Worth the price

It took some experimenting to dial out a bit of edginess in the upper mids, to my ears, anyway. Once I did, I would say I'm getting a fair amount of warmth out of it. I would categorize the Fusion 550 as a "rock" amp, but I've used it on some R&B, jazz and latin gigs and it fit right in. It will give you a LOT of grit if you want. It's pretty easy to dial in the amount of overdrive to taste - i.e. where it will only break up with the most aggressive attack.
Seems to be built like a tank, no problems at all with mine after a year and a half of moderate to heavy use. Reasonably priced, in my opinion, compared to some similar products out there. Not as much headroom as I expected (with an 8-ohm cab, Bergantino AE410 to be exact), but more than adequate volume for my needs.

just got mine this week.
havent really had alot of time to experiment with sounds yet.
But after using an Ampeg SVT 3pro for the last ten or so years i instantly noticed how defined i could hear each note.

Amazed really of what i have been missing out on all these years
simple front panel, which i like,punchy with clear bottom endand alot of power
I am really happy with it and plus you can see the tubes glowing from the front :)

Lol. This sounds about perfect for me then. I think after months of research because I don't have money, I've finally decided on this amp because I'm actually going to have money soon.

Here's to hoping I can find one of the rare used ones.

Has anyone compared the mb fusion and 550 fusion?

If so, is the fusion 550 worth the extra money instead of going with the mb fusion?

I mean, what des the 550 have besides motorized controls and bi-amp feature, that the mb fusion doesnt have? Does the 550 has an overall better sound because of it not being a d-amp???

Both seems really coll though!!! =)

All my research led me to the 550 too. I replaced my fried Sunn Concert Amp with a GK 400RB in the mid 80's and then used it as a backup to my SVT and for all small gigs. The GK is still going strong plus I just love the sound even more than my SVT. I just bought the 550 at MF using their 15% off 4th of July sale. I considered the GK Fusion 500 micro head the tiny size of it turned me off. I will use it with my new Avatar B212.
