GK Neo 410 High Range Attenuator on Full Mode question

I just picked up a GK Neo 410 4ohm cab two evenings ago used from Sweetwater (through eBay). Today I picked up a GK 400RB II head from a private individual.

Today was the first chance to try the cab, Full Range the only option for this set up. Using a Steinberger Synapse, I heard a rather nasty rattle until I used the High Range Attenuator and dialed it completely counterclockwise. I have a 1001RB-II at a different location and the cab came with the special Speakon cable, so next weekend I can use Horn Bi-Amp operation.

Is the horn blown? It seems to me that if the attenuator has to be turned all the way down on Full Mode, the manual would mention it. (I'm asking here since I'm a week away from testing it and I'd like to let Sweetwater know ASAP, if necessary.)

the horn should not sound or function any different in full range mode, it just uses an internal crossover instead of the one in the amp, sounds like you have a bad horn or bad wireing going to the horn

Turns out the cab had a repair ticket on it and shouldn't have been sent to Sweetwater's eBay guy after all...

that figures im pretty much done with sweetwater after I got a brand new stiletto 8 string with rusted strings and a horrible fret buzz that requires filing all the other bridge saddles to fix
so much for their 55 point inspection
more likely they just sent it out without fixing it cuz they thought theyd get away with it

Tough to hear about your experience! And brand new? Good grief!!

I expected to get the replacement horn ($70 or so) sent to me. Instead, they shipped me a working cab and I sent back the broken one.

The working cab gets a test at an outdoor gig in two days for an NHRA event (fairgrounds), but I have my inefficient EVs and a DI at the ready.

By the way, if you don't want the horn on while using a full range only head switch the cab to "Biamp". That way the L-pad won't have to absorb all the amp power at the high frequencies.

I got that when looking for a harmonica in a specific key

Sort of. I believe it switches the crossover input to the other two legs of the speakon connector. So if nothings connected there, no signal to crossover.

Oh dear. Well, the good news is it probably won't matter much. Try it, you might be surprised. If you can live with it you now have the option of adding another cab if you want.

Yeah the 4 ohm NEO 410 was made as a special order. They are not normal stock/production.

I don't know if I should be bummed or relieved! The 8 Ohm is certainly *plenty* loud—and I know that at least w one cab the 1001RB-II won't challenge its limits. Even the 400RB was seriously thumping it!

at 4 Ohm, I knew I was done. But now there's this GAS build-up for another 410... you know, to maximize the efforts of the head I own...

I'd go with 'relieved.' Keep telling yourself "only available in 8 ohms" over and over again. Step away from the wallet.
Also, now you can really 'rail' the little GK head without killing people.

Relieved! The difference between the output of the 8 ohm cab and the 4 ohm would be more unheard NUMBERS than loudness.
Numbers look nice but don't necessarily make music. Getting "the most" from an amp with one cab may give you a good feeling between your ears but not in them.

Definitely relieved, 8 ohms gives you options for expansion in the future. You are stuck with one cab with the 4 ohm.

try it with a 212 if you can, I know its taboo around here but I have tried my rb700/neo410 in a band situation with every possible combo another 410,a 15, 215 and a 212 witch was by far my favorite combo more punch and less boomy than 10's alone np sharp clanky highs like the 15's, its the prefect combination to my ears anyway

This is good to know. Last night (which was indoors after all), I decided to add the 8 Ohm EV 210 cab (as much for height as air movement), guessing the head would run at 4 Ohm and ~700 watts: I heard the "boomy" you mention.

That said, the local pawn shop I haunt has a Genz Benz 300w 410T cab...
