GK or Fender??

I agree :).

That's ok. My mother never paid attention to me either. I'm used to it.

Plus I'm happy knowing that my amps are better than all the GK lovers amps in this thread :). To each hizzone! All just a matter of taste and opinions anyhow. But I'll put my Carvins and Bergantino up against anyone's GK, any day :dead:  .
haha sorry... I already knew that I wanted one of the two that I listed, I just wasn't sure which one though. :)

devinp17, have you actually played through a Fender?
Yes, I have. I played through the Rumble 350 once, breifly... In a music store so I couldn't turn it up too much to get the full effect. That was also with my old bass which doesn't sound nearly as good as my new one (with EMGs!). Why do you ask? :)
Why a combo?
Well, I can't afford a rig and this is only for my basement... Maybe other stuff, but not likely.

If you're going to spend hundreds of dollars on a new amp, I'd think you'd want to be sure of the sound that you like best rather than the sound of the GK army ;)

Seriously, you played a discontinued model amp, briefly, that you didn't hear at volume with a bass you don't play anymore? And that's the basis for you choosing the GK? If I was amp shopping, I'd grab my new EMG-loaded bass and hit a store that stocks both amps you're considering, and take my time trying them both at the volume I intended to use.

BTW, I think the GK MB combos sound great. The new Rumbles do, too.

Yeah, I know but the rest of the TBers gave me more reasons to get the GK than just my bass or the volume. I've always liked the GK tone, and there's nothing really like it... I really don't know much about the Fender but I think I like the GK tone so much that it's what I want. BTW there's only one music store where I live and they carry Fenders but not GKs.

Probably you´d go to the new Fender Rumble combo instead the combo GK. GK amp heads they sound great and they sounds pretty loud, but their eq section is not my thing. The miner I ever missed to bumb just the mid-highs, like in some GK heads, so I´d go to Rumble. I find his equalizer a little bit better for working on mid-highs to define your bass sound than GK. And surelly that you´d work better and with less volumen too.

Why a combo?

This is a good question and worth thinking about more seriously. Every dollar you spend now on a combo for your basement is a dollar you haven't set aside to put towards a "real rig" later, so having the nice combo now might push your ability to upgrade further into the future. If you're sure you won't need anything more than a combo for a long time that's fine, but it's worth pausing to give some serious thought before taking the plunge.

Thanks Lobster. I think that if I get the MB115-II, I'll be able to use the "chain out" feature and buy a extended powered cab (MBP I think) a little later when I need something bigger. I know that'll be only 400W but I think it'll be a while before I need something more than that. EDIT: Unless you can use a larger powered cab than just the MBP115... I don't know, but I wouldn't want to wreck anything lol.

OK, cool -- just so long as you're keeping one eye on the future, and won't wind up regretting your purchase six months from now.

In retrospect, I feel like I did this all wrong from the beginning. I started with a small combo, then got a bigger combo.... If I had it to do all over again, with the benefit of 20-20 hindsight, I probably would have started with a 2x10 or 2x12 and a head, with an eye toward adding a second 2x10 or 2x12 later if and when the need arose. Combos are great for what they are, but I think it's (unfortunately) not unusual for people to buy them and then too-quickly grow out of them.

Anyway, your plan sounds like a fine one to me. Good luck with it!
