GK410MBE or Ampeg PF410HLF?

LOL! Get kickbacks from GK? Even as much into Ampegs as I am, I'd never say that about Ampeg to a kid trying to choose gear!

Instead, I'd say go to GC and try out whatever they have there. If you can't find them (and it's possible, especially with the PF410hlf being new), then try what they have and see what you think. GK and Ampeg are both very well-respected brands who make classic gear. I prefer Ampeg, someone else might not. All of it is immaterial to you, the kid putting his money on the line, and all that matters is what YOU like.

Yeah in the end I decided to just suck it up and wait till I go to a guitar center. The last guitar center I went to had a sad bass section. I'm gonna try another location in a different city. Hopefully their bass section is more respectful LOL

Unfortunately, don't count on it.

As a footnote, I know of what I speak, as I owned the PF500 for a bit, but returned it (and the PF cabs that went with it). It was much heavier and larger than I wanted and the PF cabs had a number of things I didn't like about them. I've tried numerous Ampeg rigs, and I just can't get the sound I want out of them.

My main rig is the GK NEO cabs with a Markbass LM III head, which I love. I looked closely at the MB500 and MB800 heads also.

Your head was hurting. I thought you needed to order today for some reason. I lifted the weight off your shoulders and made a decision.

Yeah I wanted to order now for that sale on musicians friend! LOL but now I don't think 15% is worth ordering blind.

I think it is. You can always exchange it if you don't like it and they'll give you the discounted price still. If there was an actual defect, you would not have to pay for return shipping. Think about the time, effort and cost to go drive to try them out given your location. And the likelihood of finding both in the same place (if at all) is VERY low.

I just ordered a new 2012 Fender Am Std Jazz during the sale and they gave it to me for $1090, which is almost 20% off. And Fender is supposedly a brand "excluded" from the sale!

Wow, what's it to you whether he orders now or tomorrow or a year from now? It's his money and he's being smart about it. Good for him.

And also, browbeating never gets anyone to buy anything if it really matters so much to you.

Wow...so serious. I'm sure he's going to make his decision based on what I say. It was an opinion. I personally would rather order something that I've researched, give it a go, and send it back if I don't like it. 90% of the time, I'm happy with my purchase. Driving around to look for a decent selection of bass amps at one store...not my thing. And nothing I said was inaccurate.

Rock on.

Well that's true...he should go to as many stores as he can find and hit up friends to let him try out their stuff if he can, too. I'll give you that. But there will be more 15% off sales.
