Glarry Fretless vs. Fender Tony Franklin Precision

I am considering a Franklin but I wonder if the Godin A4/A5 might suit me and musical needs better because of the synth features.
I think that "someone" should be you! It clearly speaks to you deeply.
If I were you, I'd keep your new Geddy Lee Jazz, your favorite 5 string, and sell/trade the rest to finance the Tony Franklin. That way, every instrument you'd have would be a real inspiration to you, and between them, you'd be able to make any music you desire.
There is no rush. If I get the Franklin, it will be another long layaway. I have three basses that actually worth anything. I have three basses that are worth real money, and they are not for sale. The others are nice, but not worth shipping anywhere.

Yeah me too. It's not a tone I bring out too much but man does it sound good. I like the regular fretless P tone as well like Sting.
A little work and a few $ would still bring it in at 15x less than the Franklin. I have a fretted eBay ( same as glarry) P-bass, they make you scratch your head when trying to justify all the money spent on other basses.
I dunno tho.... I'm cheap as hell too, but my Tony Franklin was like ordering the deluxe model blow-up doll from the adult video store, but then a week later a real girl showed up at the door instead.
Meaning, IMO, you won't throw any money away if you get the Tony Franklin. I just wouldn't know where to begin on the bass itself and how nice it is and how it sounds. I haven't been able to put mine down for the 3 weeks or so after I got it. It just won't leave the leg and go sit in the case. Every time I put it away, it just jumps back onto the bed/chair etc with me.
In saying that, it's also amazing that the Glarry sounds that good too. Still for $100 that's pretty awesome...

Nice! Mine's the Lake Placid Blue also, but if I get another one which eventually I will, I'm going for the sunburst finish, so it'll match my jaco pastorius artist....

I didn't even get to play mine before I bought it, but after like a month of trying to resist, the mouse finally just clicked itself over the sweetwater "Checkout" button. And now I'm broke for life, but I have the TF...
To me it's the perfect P bass, unlined board, 1 5/8" nut, slim front to back neck, and really good pickups. And it's just got a solidness about it that I haven't felt on a Precision bass in the past. Or maybe i did and just don't remember.
But it is the perfect compliment to my jazz bass. It really does sound quite different so it's a whole stable of new tones in addition to the jazz bass.
What I'm learning to do is pluck over the split P pickup, but I'm going to have to put little "ramplets" on either side of it. I either have a ramp on E and A or D and G, but not over all 4 and my fingers kind of snag a little if I don't move over the other half of the pickup when crossing those strings. Id like a ramp spanning the whole thing. It gives a great vintage sound when plucked over the split P....

Not to derail the good doctor's thread but, I have heard a lot of good things about Glarry & have been thing about trying a 5 string just to see if I would like it without breaking the bank (my piggy bank that is)

Doc, I am as sure as sure can be that a hobby store has model paint that matches the color of the fingerboard closely enough that you can dab a bit of paint over those white dots and make them disappear. Worked for me; the best color match was "rubber."
First clarification. No way does my $55 eBay bass "compare" to a Tony Franklin. My only point is how much better for how much more? I bought a Rogue fretless to see if I would like fretless. I paid $105 @ GC on a Christmas blowout. Not many months later I saw an SRF700F Portamento and was dreaming about it. Was it worth 9x what my Rogue cost? Yep! It would have been at 20x more because its what I really wanted and duh...much better bass, although I still like my Rogue. I guess my point is we don't need to justify spending more or less for that matter. We purchase based on needs, wants and often passion. Anything else is simply good topic material for the forum

I got a crisp dollar he has it on layaway by Labor DayI'm thinking before it's all said and done ..... that Doc will have this Tony Franklin on layaway.
