A while back I had the good fortune to meet Gord Miller and see some examples of his amazing work. I shipped off my '62 P and '60 J to be redone in Sonic Blue and faded 2.5 tone sunburst repectively.
The P has been my road bass for the last 8 or so years. The body, neck, pickups, bridge and neck plates are original. Aftermarket machine heads, knobs, saddles. It had been refinished in black and looked like this:

I haven't been able to get any decent pics of it with my iPhone, it's a tough colour to capture, so I'll just put up the finished shots I got from Gord for now…
The neck didn't need re spraying, but it had a terrible repro decal on it. Before I sent the bass to Gord I asked if he had any good repro decals and he did. Later I got an email from him asking what month my bass was built, as Fender changed the number of patent numbers sometime mid '62 and he wanted to make sure I got the right decal.
If you're an old bass geek, that kind of attention to detail will make you feel very warm and fuzzy!
He sprayed the headstock, checked it nicely, and added the (proper) nice repro decal - looks awesome:

I was so happy with how it turned out I got a set of original (if WAY too cleaned up) Klusons for it off eBay. Looks much better:
I love the finished product, it looks amazing - again, it's really tough to capture this colour, but these shots give you the idea.
