GMC Hummer EV

Eager to see how folks respond to this vehicle. Yeah, it looks pretty cool... but geez, it's hyper-pricey.

Electric vehicles (EV) are with us... and about to increase in numbers as car companies across the planet abandon the combustion engine and strive toward carbon neutrality. Some regional governments around the planet have already banned combustion engines from specific roads (which reminds me of the "Red Barchetta" lyrics).

Ford will offer an all-electric F-150 for 2022... and their Mach E Mustang will be released in 2021.

Curious to see how the current big makers adapt over the next couple of years... and to see if all these little electric companies can compete against them.

Introducing the GMC HUMMER EV | Electric Truck
I have found my next truck. So rad.

-Mike

If I had reliable enough electricity I'd be all over these future e-trucks. My miles are low enough and if it can haul gear and other large stuff, that's amazing. Looks pretty cool, too. However, I see my future being more of a "cheap electric hatchback" kinda story. But if ya got $100K for a car... do it! (And take pics.)

Oh yikes.
Yeah, I'm not getting one until they hit the used market for a couple years.
That diagonal driving though. How rad is that.

Here's the problem with buying a used electric vehicle. They go up for sale right about the time they need $6,000-$9,000 worth of batteries.

A friend was recently shopping for a used hybrid or electric car. He's one of those guys who refuses to buy unless he can take the car to a mechanic to be looked over first.

He took eight cars to his mechanic. Every single one was within a few a thousand miles of needing batteries. He would go back to the seller and try to negotiate based on the car needing new batteries and the sellers all pretty much said "Why do you think I'm selling it?" They were hoping someone would come along and buy not realizing they need batteries in a few months.

I can't even imagine what the batteries for this truck will cost.

It sure is pretty awesome looking though.

Sorry MJ5150, my dogging was a little too harsh :p. Do check on the bollinger, nothing plastic on it. Super cool metal dash made for easy modding and adding gauges, switches, etc. Can use as a powerplant running large wood working tools and similar. I'm a carpenter, and dreaming of getting the truck version that can haul 16 ft material right down the middle of the truck, roll up to a job out in the middle of nowhere, plug all your tools in and go just seems crazy cool. Don't know if the hummer does that or not. Love the flat panel design also. Anyhoo, just wanted to say i was sorry for calling it names:help:

Hate to be that guy, but thats the ugliest thing called a truck next to the tesla. If you want cool, check out the Bollinger. I was on the original waiting list for one when they were expected to be around 75k. When they announced time to put down deposit, the final cost was 125k, and that sucked, LOL, but check them out

BOLLINGER MOTORS - ALL ELECTRIC TRUCKS - BOLLINGER MOTORS

I gotta disagree. I've seen shoe boxes with more style than that thing.

you're right, to each their own. I agree the square is boring, but go look at the build of the truck. Its all metal everywhere, put together to last and be easy to repair. That hummer is just a plastic looking, look at inside, all the plastic, everything inside it is, with lots of bits that will snap off once a branch grazes it, LOL:roflmao:

As far as the bollinger, when they first went public, their whole angle was a rugged built working vehicle, especially the truck model. It was also originally hinted that it would only cost between 60-75k thus making it affordable for the working class joe. Thats when i first noticed and got on the wait list. Just the hauling capability and being able to run heavy duty electric tools off it just made it very desirable to me for work. They had pics and videos of plugging in a table saw to it at a job site and my heart just sank, lol. I have a JK wrangler rubicon i was going to sell and get the bollinger, then they finally announced the real cost i just became sad. If you google bollinger cost shocks the industry etc, you'll see everyone was surprised it cost so much. The company claims the hand built nature was making it cost this much. Sorry for long ramble, i was really wanting one for sure.

Looks like that figure is considering the multiplication of gear ratios ie not to be compared with "conventional" torque figures.

3-second 0-60 for a vehicle that size is insane though!

I agree that the torque figure may be calculated thru gear multiplication, but that 0-60 number impresses the heck out of the hot rodder in me.

I went looking for the curb weight of this truck just to be more impressed by that acceleration number, but I couldn't find it. Being it's got 8 lug wheels, I'll imagine it's at least a 3/4 ton chassis with a 7000 lb + dry weight...... which makes a 3 second acceleration time insane......

Fwiw, the Camaro in my signature goes 0-60 in about 2 seconds and covers the 1/4 mile in just over 10 seconds..... and it likely weighs half of what that truck does.
