I mean i suspected them of being passive, just that having red wire which is usually battery lead coming from pickup cavity to electronics cavity made me think like it was active, which noone disputed at first when i wrote to GOC. Having active pickups is not so crazy in this day and age, I personally have 2 basses with active pickups so when i saw red wire i assumed they are active (because i didn't want to go through hassle of getting the strings off, unscrewing pickup and manually checking if that red wire goes for sure from pickups), hence why i even messaged them (since you cant reverse polarity in same way on active pickups).

A little oopsie on their part but overall i am happy with the bass

Honestly, I kind of liked the sound of the coils out of.phase. i cranked the bass and it worked well.

But I swapped the wires, dropped the neck pickup to about 8mm away from the strings, bridge around 4mm, and it gave it more bottom end with similar high end!

Been interested in these basses... Got a question for people that have owned these. How much do they weigh? Saw one video review where the guy guessed it was probably 8 1/2 lbs. Was hoping they were more like the Ibanez EHBs, around 7-7.5 lbs.

If my scale can be believed, 9.1 lbs.

The body is not nearly as contoured as the EHB's, and I'm faily certain it's larger. Been a while since I played the EHB

Thanks, I appreciate the info. Guess I can check these off my list. I absolutely love my EHB1505, but these things look so cool I wanted to give them a try. 9 lbs is a dealbreaker for me with my shoulder/back issues.

I have the GOC Ilumina B37.5, which has a 37-34" scale. They also make one with a 35-33" scale. With the factory strings, mine weighed 4,151 g (9.15 lbs). I put a heavier set of strings on it, and it now weighs 4,156 g (9.16 lbs).

My Ibanez EHB 1505 MS weighs 3361 g (7.41 lbs). I also have a four-string Fender Squier Precision that weighs 4067 g (8.97 lbs) and a Fender Squier Jazz that weighs 4501 g (9.92 lbs).

The Ibanez is miraculously lightweight, and I love it! I think it's pretty amazing that the GOC, with that long scale, is barely heavier than the Precision and lighter than the Jazz. The Jazz bass has minimal neck dive, but the Precision has quite a bit. The GOC is perfectly balanced like the Ibanez.

All basses could be lightweight. It's not a secret formula Ibanez has. Just have to use a lightweight wood for the body, and tuners that that aren't made of giant outdated hunks of steel (every P and J).
I recently made myself a full scale (headed)explorer bass with a piece of basswood for the body. Whole bass came out to 6.5 lbs, and it balances great on a strap.
It's a shame that even on these forward thinking designs(headless, multi scale), they still persist on using these heavy woods.

I just modded mine! I got one of the first batches. Ordered through Instagram. Put in Nova pickups and darkglass pre. Note if thinking of modding the cavity is small thin and the pots are are also a smaller diameter than most standard.

The pickup cavity is abnormally thin. I put a Buffy McBooster in from JTex, a rotary pickup selector, and only have onboard volume now. My issue is the pickups aren't different enough. Mine came with phasing issues though, so I don't know if it's because I got two neck/two bridges or if all of them come with minimal difference.

I'm looking at getting an AlNiCo2 neck and AlNiCo5/ceramic bridge to really get a major tone difference. But I wouls.need them to compliment in series/parallel. I'm either going to wire them myself or go to MJS pickups and see what they can do!

I am also thinking of adding 3rd pickup to mine, do you find that adding it closer to neck as opposed to closer to bridge is better choice?

I have darkglass pre in my other bass, are you happy with it now more then with stock pre?

I thought closer to the neck was a natural choice for me. Hard to say if it was a better once. I really like how it sounds in the end.

I do like the darkglass a lot more. I don't always use the preamp but it feels more pronounced with the darkglass.

These mods are sick! Could you give an overview of what you’ve done so far?

I’m looking into getting the locking headpiece powder coated black to match the rest of the hardware. Also going to swap the preamp for a Darkglass Tone Capsule.

Nothing crazy on my bass; pickups run to a selector switch, which does Series/neck/parallel/bridge position, which runs to a JTEX Buffy McBooster set to 140k impedience, 6db of bass or 9 db of treble, to a 25k volume pot.

I ordered the cheapest alnico 5 and ceramic pickups available on Ebay. I'll be trying the AlNiCo in the neck position (16-17k ohms), and a ceramic bridge (14k ohms). If I like the matchup, I'll be ordering similar pickups from MJS and get the JTEX ILB to mstch outputs into the current setup!

(The GOC is pretty close in color to my Stingray and cab, the picture I posted makes it look more blue but it’s got some green in it for sure.)

It's standard bass weight. Around a P bass, less than a jazz. Dingwalls are about the same, and it weighs about the same as my schecter 35. My GOC is the northern ash. The swamp ash should be 7.8-8.3lbs, which is about a lb lighter

It's absolutely the most affordable!

The stock pickups are great! I just want a bit more variance between front and back. If I don't like the ceramic bridge I bought, I'll throw the stock pickup in the bridge and boost it up to match the new neck!

I want the neck to be a bit more vintage and to get a more P bass tone

Mine is an earlier model at 9.16 pounds, so that's a pretty significant difference. It's just barely heavier than my 1985 Squier 4-string Precision bass.
