Godin acoustic question

Hello,

I was looking at the Godin A4 andwas curious if it was loud enough unplugged to keep up with an acoustic guitar. Would be really convenient for jamming rather than having to lug my 2x12 and head around. Thanks in advance for all replies

I don't own one, but I've played one or two, and the answer is "no". They're thin, chambered bodies with no soundhole and not much more unplugged volume than a regular solidbody bass from what I remember.

I have owned one. The above is right on. They are slightly more audible unplugged than a solid body, but not much.

I've played several ABGs over the years--among them Washburns, Deans, and the Tacoma Thunderchief.

The Thunderchief was probably the loudest of them all. It couldn't keep up with a flatpicked acoustic guitar. It definitely didn't keep up with a guitar, mandolin and dobro all going at once.

Your best bet is picking up a 50-80 practice watt amp with at least a 12" speaker and playing your bass of choice through that. An amp like that should be pretty portable.

Hope I am not derailing the thread, ABG related. Has anyone played one of the Fender ABG with the Jazz neck? What do you think of those compared to other ABG? My GC does not currently have one in stock. The only ABG I ever played was an Ibby (my buddy's bass and not sure of the model, think he payed 200 to 300 new?) If felt really big and awkard to me, body wise. How is the Fender body compared to that one? My issue is I have a lot of padding in front of me so not really to comfratble playing those big body ABG, lol

You say the body's too big? That's the way they are. My Ibanez AEB500 is fat but any somewhat resonant acoustic bass is gonna be so.

Ok, lol. The two pics I saw in the GC flyer it looked a little smaller to me, was not sure if it was the pics or not though. Guess if I get one it will just give me more motivation to loose some weight. Always a plus in every thing

I had the same problem and got this Applause AE-140.

In this instance the Ovation style body is a much more comfortable fit, and the bass projects reasonably well (not well enough to play unplugged, but reasonably well). Something you might consider.
