Godin Freeway

Ok so i have been on the look out for a new/used passive bass recently (or at least a bass that can go passive)....So Jerry the owner of my Local Mom-N-Pop calls today and says they are doing inventory and putting out new basses if i want to come down and check them out...

They just became a Godin Dealer and had a couple of 4 and 5 string models...

I don't know aything about the company except they are from Canada...

I have to say that first off i'm not a big fan of their headstock or their body style but i did dig the sound and feel...anybody own one?

They ran between 500.00 and 700.00 dollars

just curious as to peoples experiences with them....I had one guy say the stock pick-ups are fairly hideous in the studio

anyone?

I'm a fan. Don't own a Freeway but have played a few and noodled around on a 5'er yesterday. I think they sound quite good - that great, passive thump. Not nasally or hi-fi. Can't speak for the studio sound. Good bang for the buck.

Not sure about the Freeways but some other models, including my A4, have the parts made in Canada and assembled in the U.S.

VERY good bass for the price! I love the fact that I live so close to the factory that turns em out. It's awesome having the ability to sending it back and having the craftsman name signed on the tag.

I don't own one but almost did, TERRIFIC bass! The neck feel is great.

and ALL Godin's are made in US/Canada, handmade I'm pretty sure. You won't find a build quality issue I'll tell you that.

Very Growly tone too, unique.

I have Freeway 4 and it is great for what I use it for (I leave it at church). I find the tone to be versatile. I can always dial in a sound I like no matter what the tune is. As for the headstock, I really like the design, just a matter of preference. The body is actually very Lakland-esque, I like it as well. I may be in the market for a Freeway 5 in the future, that's how much I like the 4.

My main bass is a Freeway5 active with modded electronics. Before that I played the passive version (belonged to my previous church). I like the sound of the passive better but I didn't realize that until after some time owning the active and going back to the passive (hence the mod). For me they are the most ergonomic bases available in stores here with exception of the Dingwalls (which I might never be able to afford)
