Going down from an SVT to...

i considered selling my svt2 (non pro) last year. i even put it on the market briefly. thank goodness i priced it too high. i'm really glad i still have it. when i want lighter weight for practice, i take an old bassman head or my acoustic 360 head. on gigs i use the svt.

I sold my SVT-3 PRO Ampeg and bought a Eden WT-550. I regret this now as I really miss the sound of the AMPEG. The Eden's OK but lacks the mid range clairty of the AMPEG. I'll probably sell the Eden and purchase another USA SVT-3 PRO soon.
Glad you found a rig to your liking. I'm surprised no one recommended the venerable 800RB though. GK stuff IS punchy as hell and can do the warm/fat thing very good. They have a reputation for hi-fi, sterile sound, but in my experience, with judicious boost settings, that reputation is unwarranted. Plus, they are CHEAP on the used market. I bet that even in Spain you could find one for a song.
PS: If you want tubes, there's really no substitute for them though. No amount of technical wizardry is going to make a SS amp react like a tube amp. Ask any guitar player...

+ 1 on the mesa! I had the mesa walkabout 12 and that thing was probably the best combo I've ever had. You will be amazed with the amount of lowend it can pump out for it's size. Very warm too. Here is a clip from a solo show using my Mesa Walkabout 12:
I am currently using the AG500 with a BagEnd 2x10 for my practice and small -medium gig rig. Very portable, loud and killer tone. I would recommend the BagEnd 2x10 over the Aggie 12. My big rig is still a DB750 w/ a Mesa 6x10. I recommend finding a suitable combo and selling the big rig only if you find you use the combo more. Best of luck and some pushups so you can haul that rig!

lately I've been using a sansamp + poweramp in lieu of a V4b, and it IS, in my opinion, a *slight* tone compromise, but it's less of a compromise than dragging your awesome vintage stuff around and leaving it in the back of bars.
