What if I just went with a pair of DiMarzio Ultra J pickups? I hear they are pretty darn good at knocking out the noise and provide great sound.
shielding and hum-canceling are two different things.
hum-canceling pickups eliminate the strong 60-cycle "hum", which would be there whether you shielded or not.
shielding reduces that extra electrostatic "buzz" you get when you take your hands off the strings.
