The strings are wider on the End so you don't need to put any washers. I did have to open up one of the holes I believe it was for the D string just a little bit. When I put the strings on I pulled them through the tuner slot tightly then held that spot with my finger and put zip ties on the string at that spot.When I strung up I just passed them through the slot and the zip ties Held them place and then I would tune it.

They came with stop bushings clamped on one end like the strings for the Ubass so no need to knot them, didn't come with washers like the Ubass strings so I didn't add washers.

I forgot to say that I had to widen the D string bridge hole a tiny bit for the new strings.

A little while ago I found the A string had slipped way out of tune (not just stretching, the string slipped in the tuner) so I dismounted it and put a zip tie on it to act as a stop to prevent slipping. So far so good.

I just read the post above and he used zip ties for all of them, I think I'll do that too if they start slipping.

Thanks! I'm glad they come with stop bushings. Tying knots in Pahoehoes is kind of like trying to nail Jello to the wall.

I like 1stnamebassist's idea for using zip ties at the tuners, too.

I had previously used the aforementioned zip ties instead of knots for string stops under the bridge on my white thunderguts, the OEM beige strings were knotted with little clamps on the E and A strings.

has anyone actually purchased a hard case for this? The baby taylor/martin hard case mentioned earlier in the thread measures 34.75" inside but the bass measures 36", any other options ? i emailed both wayne rogers and mike johnson at gold tone. Mike said something about an unconfirmed Pacific rim cases and Wayne said they they have ordered precision fit hard cases that may arrive late july. Any way to solve this case conundrum ?

The SKB-300 (Baby Taylor/Martin) case mentioned earlier is what I have. It will work if you remove some of the hard foam from both sides of the peghead area. I was able to carefully pull back the flocked cloth lining (it's glued on) and break away the foam blocks to make room. Then I reattached the lining with double-sided 3M mount tape. The body is a very snug fit, which can be improved a bit by compressing the foam over the output jack area. A precision fit case would probably be much better, but if you need a hard case now I think the SKB case is a good option. There is no problem with the overall length - the tip of the peghead just barely contacts the foam.

If you check out picco micro scale bass website. They sell the Goldtone and some uke basses as well as Picco solid body micro scale basses. I purchased mine through Totalmusicsouce on EBay. I purchased from them because they were local, so I got to try several. No problems with them, but like I said I was local, so no need to ship back a problem bass!

I got my hands on one of these yesterday. Seems like a very fun instrument but this one seemed to have big problems. Every point of contact from my fretting hand, and every pluck or touch from my other hand made noise and was amplified. It played more like a mic'd drum than a guitar. I read that talc powder can help, but I find it hard to believe that would dampen all the noises. Is this normal or did I test drive a lemon?

Looking forward to the joy of playing a fretless soon, having jumped on a Hello Music deal, and spending only $304US in total. I had a first generation U-bass, and liked it, but saw the writing on the wall with the 2013 NAMM debuts of the Micro and 2nd gen U-bass, so I sold my Kala. I've missed what it brought to my sonic palette, and look forward to great things with the Gold Tone, when it arrives.

I emailed gold tone asking if there's any news on a solid body. They told me it'll be at summer namm and will be available for purchase in August/September.

They also said this:

The ME-Bass was due to be released earlier this year. One of the features included the ability to use either the Aquila Thundergut strings or the newly developed LA Bella steel tape wounds.

GT discovered (late in the game) the intonation scale was very different between these two compounds. So a new bridge had to be designed, with the ability to adjust intonation for both string styles.

So a minor delay, but a huge improvement, as we have found some prefer using the La Bellas."

And he sent me two pictures.
