I've just started reading up on these. Has anyone heard rumors of a possible five string? My Cali UBass five has a decent low B with a similar scale length.

I'm looking for an acoustic alternative but am too used to BEADG to comfortably play EADG again. I suppose I could string BEAD with Paehoehoehoehoes off a fiver.

Sorry I keep answering questions that you didn't necessarily ask me, but as far as I know there's no plans for a five string microbass. There are plans for a solid body, but I'd think they woulda said something if they were planning a fiver. It would be a huge selling point.

Not I. Never played low B except on a Chapman Stick. Haven't heard of anyone doing it, but a simple nut change or filing the existing one and opening the holes a bit where the strings go through the body and you should be good to go. I have my Micro strung with Paehoehoes and it sounds great with them. BEAD with Paehoehoes would probably sound awesome!

I may need to give this a try. From reviewing the thread it sounds like there may be a new adjustable bridge in the works (not the one where you can flip the nut around, the one where the whole thing can move as shown on the solidbody prototype) so I might sit tight for a bit until things settle out. I also emailed Gold Tone asking about the possibility of an acoustic five.

I've been looking into buying a ubass or Microbass and I think I've settled on the micro. I have read here about people having to return their basses because of various problems. I was actually about to buy a used one because the price is good but I'm now thinking it might be one that was returned. Can anyone recommend an online dealer they've had good luck in buying a Microbass from? Someone that wouldn't send out a bad one. Or let me know if there is a store I should stay away from. Thanks.

I got mine from an online auction site. Lucky for me I found someone there whose online store was local and I was able to go and play a few. The first one I brought home gave me some issues, so I was able to return it and find another one. It would be nice if you could find someone selling in your area so you could try some out. Someone on this forum sells them. Look up Picco microbass and check out his website. I bet you he would make sure you got a good one if he sells direct.

I have one on layaway at a store in Nashville (my hometown). It's called Corner Music. I'm getting the frostless model. The store is one of the top two in Nashville. The other is Nashville Used Music, but they don't get them often. Corner music keeps them in stick in the floor. They've got a large selections if ukes as well. The GT isn't on the website but if you call, ask for J.D. He told me the GT is a regularly stocked item that is flying off the shelves. So, even if you can't go to Nashville, they are a reputable GT dealer who can ship.

Meanwhile, does anybody have suggestions for portable, battery-powered amps for this bass OTHER THAN the very well-covered Crate Taxi/Limo, Phil Jones Briefcase, Pignose 30, and Roland Microcube RX? I would really like something under $500 that provides decent tone and battery life. Nothing spectacular, just lightweight and dependable. I will probably find myself in situations (busking, camping, hanging out by the lake, etc.) where power outlets are not available. Also, is there a thread somewhere on TB about using car batteries for this purpose?

Also, do people find a DI and/or preamp helpful with this bass, perhaps while keeping the internal Fishman pre flat?

Got my fretless Microbass today. Tuned it up quick and brought it out on a gig. I've got to say I'm very pleased. Very easy to play. Sounded great too. I bought it because I have chronic shoulder pain and I wanted a bass that's comfortable to play sitting without a strap. This bass is very comfortable to play without a strap. Quite a find!
