Having used a 24.75 inch scale on 5 bass conversions with no intonation issues, it seems strange to me that a scale that's 1.75 inch shorter would cause such problems.

I've also talked to J.D. in Nashville at Corner Music (whom LaBella claims always gets his stuff before anyone else), and he says GoldTone is definitely making a 25 inch scale in fretless, fretted and a lefty. I've got money down on a fretless model at Corner Music and am just waiting for J.D. to call me and say they are in. Will keep everyone posted as things move forward.
Then that makes the intonation issue even more curious since I have no such issues on a 24.75 inch scale.
So, yesterday I went ahead and purchased a GT Micro fretless from the guys over at Gollihur. Looking forward to it coming in on Tuesday and seeing what this little baby can do!

I bought a Gold Tone thumb rest a couple weeks ago, it stays in place, but I found that it was so big it got in my way, so I removed it.
I emailed Gold Tone last week and was told that LaBella is making tape wound for the new GT solid body. Looks like Gold Tone is handling the intonation issue by using an adjustable bridge. The strings in this photo look like the LaBellas.
Has anyone compared the Ohana u bass with metal strings to the GT? I'm considering it instead of the GT. I know the metal strings won't give that same "double bass" like sound but I'm wondering if I would like it better anyway. Recently bought a baritone uke (a Lanakai) that I like but it would be cooler if it were strung like a bass. I'm still investigating some of the differences between them.
I'd love to know more about the strings on that Ohana. Haven't been able to find anything.
I don't see any of the dealers carrying it also carrying replacement strings.

I'd love to know that as well. It just seems a bit more versatile than the GT, and it's the larger scale I am looking for -- a 25 instead of a 23.
On Wednesday I was in U-Space in downtown Los Angeles/Little Tokyo. They've had an Ohana bass on the wall for a few months. I tried it and thought it was too "metal" sounding for me. I really like the sound of the Thundergut strings on my GT MicroBass that's more like a double bass. I also prefer the sound of my Les Paul Express conversion with Rotosound Tru-Bass nylon flat wounds than the Ohana.
Even though I did not play one and the only experience I have with this bass is the link above, I think I was able to hear enough of what this bass sounds like to say that I see your point. For those of us who have a plastic strung bass the question is whether we would want one of these to have a variety of sounds. I liked what I heard in the link, but I wouldn't pay $500 for another mini-bass. Maybe if I didn't already have the Gold Tone, I'd consider one of these.
So where did you guys find thumb rests on the Gold Tone website? I have searched but did not find them.

SBassman, are these, LaBella CB40 Classical Contra Bass strings, round wounds or flat wound strings?
I just got the fretless GT Micro bass and would like to know where is the best place go get replacement strings.
