Based on my experience with the Schecter Stiletto Studio 8, the Schecter Stiletto Custom 6 *might* fit the ticket. The Studio 8 isn't a bad bass... for the money

At $500, the choices are almost boundless, especially if you buy used. Listen hard, feel deeply. You can definitely hit the jackpot.

A used Schecter Stiletto Studio 6 would be my first choice.

After that, you can get a used Ibanez SR506 or BTB 676 in that range pretty easily as well, but I prefer the Schecters.

Indeed. I got a used LB76 for $650 once. Pretty close to OP's price range.

ESP Ltd and Ibanez sr would be my first look for sixers in price range. Due to slimmer neck then most and very good sound.
