Good Bass Luthier in Connecticut

I'm looking for a luthier in Connecticut who understands bass guitars. I know this sounds weird, but I've worked with a couple of luthiers who seem to be great with 6-string guitars (recommended by guitar players) but seem challenged by a bass. When I've gotten setups, the action always comes back high, even though I've asked for low action. I've brought basses back and asked for lower action with the height off the frett specified and it still comes back high. Frustrated, I wound up taking it down to a luthier in NYC who did the setups it up properly. But that's a long drive.

I'd appreciate any recommendations. I live near Hartford, so that area would be most convenient, but I'll go anywhere in the state for a good luthier (it's a small state).

Can't help you with CT, but Boston is only a ~2 hour drive from Hartford, so if you can't find anyone closer I'll recommend Craig Jones at Bay State Vintage Guitars. He did all the repair and setup work on my basses when I lived in Boston.

Norms’s Guitar Shop in Newington is good.
I’ve also had good luck with Beller’s in Manchester for basic setup stuff and pickup swaps.

LUTHIERS build them, and GUITAR TECHS fix or modify them. These are two very different disciplines, and rarely do you find builders who are also repair people.

Sorry to be tardy to the party, but Frank Down at Brian's Guitars in Cheshire will take great care of you. He's a bass luthier (they had a couple of his creations on display last week when I dropped my bass off for a minor repair), and also handles their repair work.

I had him replace my 1/4" jack and a set up...everything was completely out of whack due to the wild humidity issues we had here last winter. It plays like a dream. Fairly reasonable rates, too.

I've only dealt with the owner, Chris (aka Sanchez), and it was a couple of years back. I don't know if he's taken on any staff.
