"Good" cheap bass

Check out Carvin....They are made in the USA...and sold wholesale from the warehouse,so there's no middleman. Having said that, they also have an impressive service department. I have 2 and I love them both.

Hm... are you saying to play a 5 string and tune it to CGCFA? That would be a good idea actually, would it help with the "growl" because of the B string? Although it would be rising half tone, although I was thinking of throwing some high gauge strings on the 4string like I have on my current one, from .115 or more..

No, I guess I was saying that with a 5 string, with the low B you can play a C on the first fret, and just use standard tuning. I don't get nonstandard tuning on a bass, sorry. Guitars make sense, as they use open strings when playing chords, but with a five string bass, why ever use non-standard tuning?

Let me explain, there is no way I could play what I play in my band with a standard tuning.

This is my band, that song is not the best showcase of what I'm trying to explain, but believe me, many fast riffs would be almost impossible to play

Belive me, I feel you completely, I HATE to detune my basses, it feels like I'm "ruining" them... but in this case it has to be

I don't have it obviously but I assume it wouldn't be bad... aside the 35" scale which I have no idea if it makes a difference or not .. never played one ... anyways I really have to buy a new bass now, this is getting way out of hand, the bass is completely out of tune, as in , I tune it and it shows correctly at the tuner, but the intonation is awful, frets are all off except for 12th... I've done like 3000 setups and it only corrects it temporarily
