Ok, so I replaced the battery (duh!) and THERE was the bass!
Honestly at first I was about to get pissed. It wasn't anything special sound-wise and the signal was crappy. But a fresh Duracell woke this Bad Bitch up quick and in a hurry!

After spending the last half hour with it, I can see what the fuss is about. There are more damn tonal options on this thing than you could possibly ever want. Flat (volume max, blend even, bass at 10, treble at 10), it hits you boom right in the chest, like they're supposed to. Then, you take into account that the master has a push pull for bright/attack, bass push/pull for attack and treble push/pull for attack, and then take into account that the blend makes each tiny adjustment and totally transforms the tonality of the instrument, you could get lost just figuring out your favorite settings! One sweet thing I found, was blending all the way to the neck, treble at 0, bass at 0 with the pot pulled, gets you this awesome ultra scooped sound that seems like a very very very short delay on it, and just gives you this big boom/thud sound, but not icky like on a P-bass thud! I threw a phaser on that and just went crazy for about 10 minutes on that setting alone. Fun as hell.
Now I can see why Justin C. uses this bass, for all the weird sounds and ambiances they need, you can have mental settings to make this thing sound like anything you want. No wonder the guts and pickups are hunted down like a 20 point buck in November! Throwing these into a custom job would be just sick.

You really have to see it to believe it. Most fun I've had playing an instrument in a really long time.

And the wood specs are:
Wenge facings, brazilian mahogany core, maple neck, indian rosewood fretboard (per the masking tape on the inside to the compartment cover!)

Congratulations on a fantastic bass. I just love Wals.

Re the controls there is one volume and one pickup blend knob which you have found.

The other two are parametric type tone controls one for each pickup so you can create the tone you like from each pickup then use the pickup blend knob to mix the two together or use just the bridge or neck pickup. As you say there is an active/attack push pull function on the two tone knobs which again adds to the variations available.

Once the controls are mastered which can take a little while, you will be rewarded with a vast array of tones.

So lock yourself away with your new toy and go experiment.:D

If I have not explained the controls quite right then I am sure someone else will clarify

I've kinda got the hang of them so far, to get good and varying tones from the bass. :)
Figuring out how they interact with the blend is the kicker- very cool indeed, albeit a little hard to remember at times.

Congratulations!!
You`ve done a great deal.
Wals don`t show up often and at that price is almost ridiculous. Glad to hear you`re enjoying it, but you know you`re not helping our GAS cure.

If I ever or anyone ever sees or gets a shot at a Wal at good price, that is in working condition Electronic wise. Buy it, the best bass investment you can make.


I only see these going up & up in value


Same with early BC Richs cant go wrong buying either if the price is right. Dont think do I have the money. Just buy it and come up with the money or sell it to someone here!

Outstanding purchase!

As far as tones, set pickup balance dead center and set both tone pots on 10 and make sure they are in the "down" position. Also, make sure that the volume pot is in the "down" position. This is your starting setup. Quite frankly, I find very little reason to move off of this for most things. That said, when you are ready to experiment, go here:

Well the thing is immensely awesome. :)

I'm diggin' it a WHOLE whole lot. And as far as the "getting in line in case I don't want it" PM's go, I wouldn't even know where to start to be fair to everyone. :)

We can't do auctions or silent bidding on TB Classy's from what I recall... ;) So I'd need ideas on that one. If I let it go, it'd be around December or January, as that's when my custom Q5 will be done.
