That's not it at all. There is a sticky for this exact question right at the top of the forum. This question is asked like, once a month.

Yes- please read the sticky. Not only are there links to lots of other threads on the same topic, but there is (more importantly) a link to an Ed Friedland video where he states the truth quite clearly- you can play metal or thrash on any bass. If you still are hung up on the idea that one is better than the other, just look at what your favorite players are using and copy them.
