Good Mixing console for a GIGGING act 24+ channels

The Onyx actually has some better features than the Soundcraft. All auxes are individually switchable for pre/post. A 4 ladder led for monitoring your levels on every channel. A bnc lamp connector. Every channel has switchable phantom power. A built in talkback mike plus the firewire option all for less money. Mackie as a company is having problems so I would be leary about buying from them now. AS far as tour riders I Imagine you will not find any lx7s being acceptable either. Soundcraft GBs and MHs but those cost $$.

The Onyx series do have better sounding pre's than Mackie's earlier mixers, but it's still a matter of reliability - and I would never trust a Mackie for that when a product by Soundcraft or A&H was available... Mackie is known for adding all kinds of features, at the expense of overall quality - to keep their prices down... The reason why Mackie is "having problems as a company" is because they're been bought out by LOUD - and as we've seen with Ampeg, that isn't a good thing for their customers...

georgestrings the mic pres in these boards don't mean jack. It is the EQ that makes the board sound good or bad. I have owned 5 different mackie mixers and only had a bad solder joint on a SR24 that I had to repair after 3 years of hard use. My results may not be typical. My local music store now carries Allen&Heath so if I was market for a new board I would go in that direction. My Onyx is completely trouble free. Meanwhile My lx7ii has a minor issue, a channel assign switch is stuck in one position.
