I second the 12th Fret. But the one caveat is that the 12th Fret is not necessarily the best place to look at basses. But it's probably the best guitar store in Canada. It's small but kicks ass.
The Long & McQuade store at 925 Bloor st. W is an excellent store.
Steve's Music at 415 Queen Street West is also good
Is bigger, better and is much more comfortable to try out basses. They also carry Sur, Fender, Warwick, Music Man and other not so easy to find brands.

I was in Steve's yesterday and they had nothing but Fenders and mainly mid priced and lower basses in stock... they did however have a used MTD hanging there.
In speaking with the folks there, they have to some degree changed their business model. They really don't stock high end basses. They used to stock many, including Spector, but times have changed and they really do stock whats been selling and that appears to be low to mid range instruments.
If you are looking for upper mid to high end basses, you really can't beat Club Bass. I also feel that Cosmo have at least tried to build a bass inventory and they do have some nice equipment.
