Good (not BEST) Gig Rig??

What kind of rig would be good for small gigs with no PA, but could also be used as a monitor at venues that do, for under $1k?

At first i thought the Behringer BX4500H and BA410 Half Stack Package would suffice...but did a TB search and got half and half reviews about it's reliability. Then thought maybe the Gallien-Krueger Backline 600/Goldline 4x10 Stack...but I'm just not knowledgable about amps.

Opinions?

The Backline 600 is a good head and will give you 300 watts into a 4 ohm load. Paired with an Avatar 2x12 cabinet, which you can order in 4 ohms or one of their 4 ohm 4x10 cabinets, you'd have a good rig that's not too expensive and fairly easy to move around.

I like to play punk, progressive, indie, and play around with hip-hop basslines as well as Jazz and Blues. Honestly, I'm not even in a band yet...but when the time comes, I want to be prepared with a decent rig.

That GK combo seems like a great suggestion though! Thanks!

If you're interested in the GK, check out Invalid Link Removed they've got better prices on the heads, at least. For a similar price to the combo, you could probably get a 700RB head from rmc and a pretty nice cab, avatar 410 maybe?

The best rig I ever heard live was a gk800 through an old hartke 410xl. It was a blues band up in Detroit back in the early '90's at a little club called the Blue Goose (actually, it was in St. Clair Shores). He just punched through, and sat in the mix perfectly. I had a chance to play the same rig live, and I thought it sounded like shite up close and soloed. But man, out in the crowd, it was perfect.

About a week later there was another band in the same club, and this bassist was playing through an old ampeg SVT and fridge...... I always thought that amp could do no wrong.... until I heard it in that club. It was a mess. You couldn't make out any note he was playing in the wall of mush. (disclaimer.... I still love the SVT and fridge)

With that said......
You can get a GK700RBII with a GK Neo212 bottom shipped for under 1K from RMC Audio. You can later add another cab, so you'll push the full 480 watts from the GK. Great rig, that punches through and sits in the mix better than just about any other amp out there.
